Assam Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan 2024, Apply Online In an ambitious move by the Assam government, the Mukhyamantri Udyamita Abhiyan aims to empower women members of self-help groups (SHGs) by promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship among them. The initiative aims to provide a sustainable annual income of Rs one lakh to each woman involved, thereby harnessing their potential as rural micro entrepreneurs, also known as Lakhpati Bydo. The scheme, targeted at around 39.42 lakh beneficiaries, outlines a financial pathway for them to start their business with a seed capital of Rs 10,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This initial investment is based on the business plan prepared by the government and a financial review in the next year. Satisfactory progress entitles the beneficiary to an additional Rs 12,500 grant and the same amount as a bank loan to scale up their business.
The announcement of the Assam Mahila Udyamita Yojana has generated a lot of interest among the people, with 25 lakh women registering in the first phase itself. To facilitate this enthusiastic response, the government has set aside a budget of Rs 39 crore for the effective implementation of the programme. The initiative aims to promote women-led enterprises and aims to raise the educational status of girls and contribute to population control in the state. Eligible women, categorised on the basis of the number of children and relevant community guidelines, are also asked to commit to family planning measures by submitting a ‘Sankalp Patra’. This pledge extends to ensuring educational enrolment for their daughters, which further emphasises the broader social objectives of the programme.
