Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Scholarship for Girls
- Applicants must have Indian citizenship.
- Eligible persons are those who are the only girl child in their household.
- Women scholars who do not have any brother or who are twins or fraternal sisters can apply.
- Candidates must be below 30 years of age when starting their first year of the postgraduate program.
- The candidate must be enrolled in a regular, full-time preparatory year of a Master’s programme at a recognised university or postgraduate institute. Applicants must be pursuing non-professional academic courses and must attend physical classes at a recognised institution.
- It is essential that the applicant is not pursuing his/her education through distance learning methods.
- Exclusions: The policy specifies certain limitations with regard to its applicability. Firstly, it does not support enrolment in postgraduate programmes through distance learning. Secondly, deemed universities that do not receive financial aid from the central or state government are not eligible under this framework. Additionally, in a family having both a son and a daughter, the scholarship will not be given to the girl child.

- UIDAI Aadhaar Card
- Confirmation of enrollment in a recognized Master’s degree program in an institution in India, approved by the UGC.
- Joining Report (as per the template given in Annexure-I)
- Legal declaration about being the only girl child (based on the template given in Annexure-II)
- Bank Account Passbook (duplicate copy)
- Birth Certificate or Secondary Education Completion Certificate
- To be provided by the institution
- After the completion of the first year, the institutions must submit a progress report detailing the level of achievement of the candidate in terms of percentage marks.
- After the completion of the first year, the institution authorities must provide proof of fund utilization.
How to Apply for Girls Scholarship for Master’s Degree 2024
- Eligible applicants are required to submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal after the commencement of the application period and after it is announced on the UGC website.
- The educational institution in which the applicant is enrolled must authenticate the submitted online application.
- Educational establishments admitting students in the first year of postgraduate programmes are required not to charge tuition fees on women students pursuing postgraduate degrees in universities/colleges/institutions.
